Delete Cache

What is the Cache?

The cache is also known as the “temporary internet files” folder. This folder stores temporary files during your internet browsing sessions. You’ll find images, sounds, webpages, cookies, downloaded programs and other related files used during the web browsing activities.

The cache helps enhance the web browsing experience by speeding up the retrieval of web page elements. After all, if the images are stored on your PC, the web page will load faster.

What Risks does the Cache Present?

Having all those files on your system poses a risk to your privacy and it clogs up your hard drive. Anyone with access to your PC can view the contents of the cache and see exactly what websites you frequent. In addition, items such as cookies collect information about you and can build a profile of you, your personal information and your browsing history.

In order to protect your privacy, a clear cache is an absolute must.

How to Delete the Cache

To delete cache files and delete browser cache files is an easy job but one you will find yourself doing over and over if you do it manually. This is because each time you go on the internet, the cache fills back up again.

To delete the cache, open Internet Explorer and choose Tools from the menu. Choose Internet Options from the drop down list. You’ll see the General tab is already selected. In the Temporary Internet Files section you should see the Delete Files button and the Delete Cookies button. Delete both options.

Internet Explorer 7 is laid out slightly different. You’ll still go to the General tab of Internet Options but you’ll see Browsing History instead of Temporary Internet Files. When you hit the Delete button, a new screen will give you a choice to remove more components including temporary files, cookies, history, form data, and passwords. You can choose to delete them independently or hit Delete All to delete them all in one click.

Other Ways to Clear Cache

To manually delete these temporary files is easy as shown above but you will need to do this every time you go online in order to get the most benefit from a clean cache. In addition, these temporary files aren’t thoroughly deleted using the manual steps outlined above. That’s because deleted files can be recovered using data recovery software. If someone really wants to find out what your web history is, they can recover your files and piece together your web browsing history.

A better way to delete browser cache and temporary internet files is to use a permanent deletion tool. These software deletion tools allow you to delete all temporary files in just a click of a button. This frees up the clutter and lets your PC perform at a more optimal level. You can even set the software up to scan and delete the cache at regular intervals so that you no longer need to think about it. Set it up once and enjoy a clean cache every day.
